CORONAVIRUS / FLU REUSABLE MASK

Gizéh Adrián Triana Cárdenas, a Mexican mechatronics engineer

Design of a practical, reusable and 3D printable mask to support the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

The masks have been a support and a true manufacturing product.

With the mask indirectly generated a significant movement in 3D printing with the various adaptations that have been made to the design in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in many locations around the world.

Upon learning that the COVID-19 emergency practically ended with supplies such as face masks to protect himself, the engineer from San Nicolás, recently graduated from UANL, Gizeh Triana, designed a reusable mask to treat the coronavirus.

The 23-year-old posted his design on a specialized platform, and promoted it on social media. The benefit? With a 3D printer and a few materials that can be found in any stationery, you can have this mask that prevents people from touching their faces, as well as putting a barrier for saliva and other secretions that can cause infections.

I'm honestly very happy to have contributed something to the 3D community in these difficult times generated by this pandemic, I did not think it had the scope that we are seeing today. Now that the pandemic has reached my community, the support that I can offer to the medical sector has been slow and gradual, unfortunately as I am a recent graduate, the resources I have are still limited.

This was possible thanks to the initiative of Tomás Kapler from the Czech Republic to build on the design that I offered for the coronavirus.

Where to get the design

SUPPORT YOUR COMMUNITY AND BE PART OF THIS MOVEMENT!

You just need print this mask, velcro or elastic band and acetate transparent sheet. CHEAPER AND EASY.

GrabCad Community

GrabCAD, Inc. is a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based startup that created a free cloud-based collaboration environment that helps engineering teams manage, view and share CAD files.

Thingiverse

Thingiverse is widely used in the DIY technology and Maker communities, by the RepRap Project, and by 3D Printer and MakerBot operators.

Free non-profit

This design is for the medical sector or anyone who has first contact with the coronavirus and requires basic protection. I indicate the sites to download the mask, it is for free non-profit use.

A design with optimizations was recently added due to the need to speed up facial mask print time and use as little material as possible. Even now children can use it for their protection.

How the design came about

“I wanted to find something that would cover your face, free, reusable and very cheap. I designed it and found all the materials in a stationery store. I am using velcro and an acetate sheet that you use in an office. "

The masks were a true maker product

"I uploaded my design to a website for all those who could print it out and donate it to medical personnel at local hospitals, the coronavirus pandemic is still creating a severe shortage of products that can protect them in their work."

This proposal was initially taken by engineers from countries such as Slovakia, France, Brazil, United States, Germany and Canada, among others, who made adaptations to the design and printed them to deliver to medical personnel in their localities.

Fortunately, there are engineers of great human quality who are adapting and distributing it for free in many places.

My respect to the whole community of makers

I'm enormously grateful to them for considering my modest contribution.

HOW IT WORKS

This is the beginning ...

... of a profession that generates passion and creative effort

Everything has a beginning and this is mine:

  • December, 2019.- Graduate in Mechatronics from the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (FIME) at the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon. Monterrey Mexico

  • March 5, 2020.- "CORONAVIRUS / FLU REUSABLE MASK" reusable mask that prevents people from touching their faces, as well as putting a barrier for saliva and other secretions that can cause infections.

ABOUT US

Creativity, talent and altruism in the creators

I'm enormously grateful to them for considering my modest contribution

We found a 3D model of the Mexican designer Gizeh Triana, who shared it on Facebook. We redesigned the model and as the product has proven its worth, we have decided to produce it for other health professionals who will receive it for free.

Robert Cossette

Josef Prusa started with a reusable mask design that Gizeh Triana, a Mexican mechatronics engineer, had placed on GrabCad. Prusa's team redesigned it to eliminate supports and maximize the number of headbands that fit on a print sheet.
